HIGH SCHOOL OUTREACH

Student Tours

The Forum hosts student tours of the 200-acre Texas Biomed campus for a handful of high school science programs each year. These tours of San Antonio’s biomedical research jewel expose these bright young students to the exciting possibilities of a career in science. The student tours are a fantastic opportunity for area high school students and a rewarding experience for Forum volunteers. Tours are limited and are filled on a first come, first serve basis.

Science Education Awards

For the past 26 years, the Texas Biomedical Forum and the V.H. McNutt Memorial Foundation have joined forces for the Science Education Awards. Local public and private high school teachers are invited to participate. The awards are given to the top teachers whose proposals demonstrate the strongest commitment to the scientific process and the further development of progressive science education programs.

Winners are determined by a panel of judges including Science Education Awards founder, Valerie Guenther, representing the V.H. McNutt Memorial Foundation as well as several Forum Trustees. The panel is rounded out by Texas Biomed scientists.

Historically, the L.D. Ormsby Foundation has provided a grant which enabled the first ten teachers to submit proposals to receive a $50 personal stipend. A $200 participatory grant has also been provided in the past to schools who did not receive a placed award.
